If you are looking for Sprinter van hire in Barcelona, you probably have a group that is too big for a people carrier and too small for a coach. The Mercedes Sprinter fills that gap with up to 16 seats and a driver who handles the road, the parking and the timing. This page covers what the Sprinter suits, what it costs and how to book it.
Sprinter van rental with a driver
The Sprinter is a Mercedes minibus with seats for up to 16 passengers. I rent it with a professional driver only, because the usual reasons for hiring a van, such as a group arrival, a wedding or a corporate outing, are easier when someone else drives and finds the parking.
It suits:
- Groups of 8 to 16 who want to stay together, from the airport to the hotel and on the day out.
- Wedding guests moving between the hotel, the ceremony and the venue.
- Business teams travelling to a congress, a factory visit or a dinner.
- Families and friends on a holiday with lots of luggage.
For seven passengers or fewer, the Mercedes V-Class is the more economical choice. For more than 16, look at the minibus or the coach.
Sprinter prices
Prices are in euros, include VAT and are per vehicle.
| Service | Sprinter |
|---|---|
| Barcelona airport (El Prat) to or from Barcelona | €200 |
| Driver at your disposal, 6 hours (minimum per day) | €610 |
| Driver at your disposal, 8 hours | €785 |
| Each additional hour | €90 |
Hourly hire has a 6-hour minimum per day and no maximum. Destination transfers from Barcelona, such as Sitges, Montserrat, Girona, PortAventura and Andorra, have their own Sprinter prices on the prices page. Other cities and several days are quoted on request.
Van hire from Barcelona airport
A group arriving at El Prat is the situation where the Sprinter earns its place. You land, the group meets the driver and everyone travels in one vehicle with the luggage. I need the flight number, the date, the terminal if you know it, and the hotel address. Then I confirm the meeting point before you travel.
The Barcelona airport transfer page describes the route and the timing in more detail, and the airport publishes its own information on the Aena website.
Seats and luggage: is 16 really 16?
A Sprinter has 16 passenger seats, but the luggage lives in the same space. A group of sixteen with one large suitcase each is a stretch. If your group is close to the limit, say so in the quote request. I will tell you whether the Sprinter works or whether the minibus is the safer option. The same applies to golf bags, musical instruments and trade-show boxes.
Using a Sprinter for a day out
The hourly option is popular with groups because the van stays with you:
- City sightseeing: the driver drops the group at the sights and picks it up again, so nobody has to search for parking. See the private Barcelona day tour page.
- Wine country: a group tasting day in Penedès, with a designated driver by default. See wineries near Barcelona.
- Montserrat and Sitges: the classic day trips, listed on the day trips from Barcelona hub.
Sprinter or something else?
| Vehicle | Seats | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Mercedes V-Class | 7 | Families, small teams |
| Mercedes Sprinter | 16 | Medium groups, events |
| Minibus | 33 | Larger groups, tours |
| Coach | 60 | Big events, congresses |
The fleet page has details of each vehicle.
Sprinter for weddings, events and congresses
The Sprinter is the vehicle that works for groups at an event. For a wedding it moves the family from the hotel to the ceremony and on to the reception. For a congress it shuttles a team between the hotel and the venue. For Mobile World Congress guests, see the MWC chauffeur page, where MWC Barcelona 2027 runs from 1 to 4 March 2027 at Fira Gran Via (see the official MWC Barcelona site). On the wedding side, the wedding chauffeur page explains the service.
Event weeks fill up quickly, so ask early. Send the date, the timings of the day and the addresses, and I tell you whether the Sprinter can cover the whole schedule or whether a second vehicle makes it easier.
Questions I ask before quoting a van
- How many people are travelling, and how much luggage?
- Is it one pick-up or several, and where?
- Is it a transfer or a full day at your disposal?
- Do you need a return, and when?
- Is the group together the whole time, or does it split?
The answers tell me whether the Sprinter is right, and whether the quote should be a fixed transfer or hours.
Van hire for sightseeing and day trips
A Sprinter is also a comfortable way to see places outside Barcelona with a group. Montserrat, Sitges, Girona and the Costa Brava are all easy day trips by van, and the driver waits while you visit. Visitor details for the mountain are on the official Montserrat site. I plan the departure time with you so that the group arrives before the busiest hours, and I suggest a realistic number of stops for the hours you book.
Sprinter, minibus or coach for corporate groups
Companies often ask which size to book for a team outing or a client visit. The Sprinter suits a team of up to 16 and feels more personal than a large coach, with quicker access to hotel entrances and narrow streets. A larger delegation goes by minibus or coach. I recommend the size from your headcount and luggage, and I tell you if a second vehicle would make the schedule easier. See the business chauffeur page for the corporate side.
