A race weekend at Montmeló is a long day with a lot of waiting: queues for the entrance, crowds at the end, and a long wait for transport when thousands of people leave at once. A private chauffeur does not change the race, but it changes how you get to it and how you get home. This page explains how I handle an F1 Barcelona Montmeló transfer.
F1 Barcelona Montmeló transfer: how it works
Montmeló lies north-east of Barcelona, and the circuit is the home of the Catalan round of the sport. My approach is simple: I keep the car and driver at your disposal for the hours you choose, you tell the driver when you are ready to go, and the vehicle waits near the agreed point. Hire has a 6-hour minimum per day, with no maximum, and extra hours are charged at the hourly rate.
The route is 28 km from Plaça de Catalunya to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, about 30 min without traffic (route on Google Maps). On race days the roads near the circuit carry far more traffic than that figure suggests, so I plan the pick-up well ahead of your entry time.
Prices for race day
All prices are in euros, per vehicle, VAT included.
| Vehicle | Passengers | 6 hours | 8 hours | Extra hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mercedes E-Class | up to 3 | €470 | €630 | €80 |
| Mercedes S-Class | up to 3 | €745 | €990 | €125 |
| Mercedes V-Class | up to 7 | €470 | €630 | €80 |
| Mercedes Sprinter | up to 16 | €610 | €785 | €90 |
| Minibus | up to 33 | €685 | €900 | €110 |
| Coach | up to 60 | €685 | €900 | €110 |
The S-Class is booked by the hour only. A race day often runs longer than six hours door to door, and I would count the hours from the hotel pick-up to the drop-off rather than from the gate. The chauffeur by the hour page explains how hours are counted, and the prices page has the whole table.
Getting to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya
You have several ways to get to the circuit, and I would rather you knew them than pretended a chauffeur was the only one. The circuit publishes the access information, public transport and parking for each event on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya website. Regional rail and bus services are on the Renfe site. I do not quote timetables or fares here, because they change with every event.
What a chauffeur adds is a fixed arrangement: your group travels together, you do not carry bags on public transport, and the car waits for you at the end of the day. For hospitality guests, clients and families, it is the option I recommend.
Which vehicle for the race
- Two or three guests: the Mercedes E-Class.
- A family or a group of friends, up to 7: the Mercedes V-Class, which also takes bags and jackets.
- Corporate hospitality groups: the Sprinter for up to 16, a minibus for up to 33.
If you are travelling with a group from several hotels, tell me the pick-up addresses and I plan the order.
Dates and tickets
The race calendar and the ticket information are published by the organisers. For the Formula 1 calendar, see the official Formula 1 website. For the circuit’s own events and ticketing, see the circuit’s site. I do not list dates, ticket prices or entrance rules on this page, since they change with every edition, and I would send you to the official source for them. Send me the date once you have your tickets and I will check the vehicle.
Before and after the race
Many guests stay in the city and also want the airport. The fixed airport price into Barcelona is €80 in an E-Class or V-Class (see the Barcelona airport transfer page). A day on the Costa Brava or in Girona before or after the race is quoted on request, and the options are described in the day trips from Barcelona section. The other events I cover are listed on the events page.
What to bring and what to tell the driver
A race day is long, and the luggage is usually small: a bag, a jacket, perhaps a camera. The circuit has its own rules on what can be brought in, which you can read on its official website, so check them before you pack. Tell the driver where you will be dropped and where you want to be collected, and agree a way to reach each other when the crowds make a phone call difficult. I like to confirm the meeting point the evening before.
How to book your F1 chauffeur
