Sitges is the easiest sea-and-sand escape from Barcelona. It is 39 km down the coast, it has an old town on a headland, a long promenade and a choice of beaches. This page covers how to plan a day trip to Sitges from Barcelona with a private driver, which of the two prices applies to you, and how to fill the day.
Day trip to Sitges from Barcelona: transfer or full day
The price depends on what you ask the car to do.
- A transfer only. I take you to Sitges and you make your own way back, or the other way round. The Barcelona to Sitges price is €135 in the E-Class or V-Class, €345 in the Sprinter and €420 in the minibus or coach. For a one-way ride on a fixed price, see the Barcelona to Sitges transfer page.
- A day with the driver at your disposal. The car waits for you and returns to Barcelona when you are ready. The estimate is 40 minutes each way plus about 4 hours in town, which fits inside the 6-hour daily minimum.
| Vehicle | Passengers | 6 hours at your disposal |
|---|---|---|
| Mercedes E-Class | up to 3 | €470 |
| Mercedes V-Class | up to 7 | €470 |
| Mercedes Sprinter | up to 16 | €610 |
| Minibus | up to 33 | €685 |
| Coach | up to 60 | €685 |
These are separate services, not a discount on each other. If the day runs beyond 6 hours, extra hours are charged at the hourly rate: €80 in the E-Class or V-Class, €90 in the Sprinter and €110 in the minibus or coach. The S-Class is booked hourly only, and 6 hours costs €745. Prices include VAT; see the prices page for every row.
The drive to Sitges
From Plaça de Catalunya to Sitges it is 39 km, about 40 minutes without traffic (route on Google Maps). That is the free-flow time. Weekends in summer bring heavier traffic on the coast road and motorway, and I allow for it when I propose the pick-up.
What to do in Sitges in a day
Sitges is compact, and most of the interesting parts can be done on foot.
- The old town. White-washed lanes lead up to the church on the headland, with views over the sea. It is a pleasant place for a late-morning walk.
- The beaches and the promenade. Long town beaches run along the front, and the promenade is the place for a coffee or lunch.
- Museums and galleries. The town has a long tradition of art and culture; check the official Sitges tourism site for what is open on your date.
- Boat trips. Several are offered from the marina in season; I do not quote them here, so confirm times and prices with the operator.
A simple rhythm is a late-morning arrival, a walk through the old town, lunch by the sea, a swim or a stroll in the afternoon, and the drive back before the evening peak. In summer, start earlier to avoid the heat and the crowds.
When to go
Sitges changes character through the year. Summer is warm and busy, spring and early autumn are quieter, and winter is calm, with fewer places open. Events and festivals bring crowds, and the town’s official site is the right place to check dates. If you hate crowds, aim for a weekday.
Sitges with the Penedès or other stops
Sitges sits at the edge of the Penedès wine area. A morning in the cellars and an afternoon by the sea makes a full day: read the Penedès wine tour page for how that works. Others pair Sitges with Tarragona further down the coast. These longer days add hours at the hourly rate, and I quote the combination on request.
Train, taxi or private driver
The train from Barcelona to Sitges is the common choice for one or two people travelling light; check Renfe for services. A taxi is easy but is a metered fare, which is hard to predict for a long ride. A private driver costs the fixed per-vehicle price above, and it is the option that handles groups, luggage and flexible return times well.
I’d pick the car when the group is four or more, when you arrive from the airport with bags (see the airport to Sitges page), or when you want to be back late in the evening.
How to book
- Decide whether you need a transfer or a full day, and the number of passengers.
- Choose the date and the pick-up address in Barcelona.
- Tell me roughly when you want to arrive in Sitges and when you want to be back.
- Use the form below. I answer by e-mail or WhatsApp with the vehicle and the price.
Other excursions are on the day trips from Barcelona hub, and the fleet page shows the cars.
Practical tips for a Sitges day
- Beat the heat. In summer, arrive in the morning, walk the old town first and keep the beach for the afternoon.
- Avoid the weekend crush. A weekday is calmer, particularly in July and August, when the coastal road is busy.
- Bring a bag for the beach. I keep a quiet car, but I cannot store wet towels, so pack accordingly.
- Decide the return time early. If you plan dinner in Sitges, tell me and I stay with the car. Any hours beyond 6 are charged at the hourly rate.
- Check events. The town hosts festivals and cultural events through the year, and streets close for some of them. The Sitges tourism site has the calendar.
Sitges for different travellers
Couples tend to want the old town, a long lunch and sunset on the promenade. Families with children usually aim for the beach and an early return. Groups of friends often combine Sitges with a cellar visit inland. Whatever your group, I propose a rough timetable once I know who is travelling, and you adjust it as you go.
If you only need to reach the town and not return the same day, the fixed Barcelona to Sitges price is the better fit, and the airport to Sitges page explains the airport run.
