If you are moving a group around Barcelona, a coach and driver is usually the simplest way to do it. Everyone arrives together, the luggage travels in one place and you do not have to organise several taxis. This page explains how I handle bus hire in Barcelona with a driver, what it costs and how to choose between the coach and the smaller vehicles.
Bus and coach hire in Barcelona: what I offer
I run one coach, which takes up to 60 passengers, and a minibus for up to 33. You can book either by the hour, with the driver at your disposal for the day, or as a transfer on the one fixed route in the price table, between Barcelona airport and the city.
| Booking | Coach (up to 60) | Minibus (up to 33) |
|---|---|---|
| Barcelona airport to or from Barcelona | €320 | €320 |
| Driver at your disposal, 6 hours | €685 | €685 |
| 8 hours | €900 | €900 |
| Each additional hour | €110 | €110 |
Prices are in euros, include VAT and are per vehicle. If your group is under 33, see the minibus hire page, because the minibus is the same price and can be easier to park and manoeuvre. The prices page has the other vehicles.
Bus hire in Barcelona for different groups
The coach works well for:
- Corporate groups and congresses. Arrivals at the airport, transfers between hotel and venue, and the return. Trade fairs are held at Fira Barcelona.
- School trips and sports teams. One vehicle, one departure time and one driver who knows the roads.
- Wedding guests. Transport between the hotel, the ceremony and the reception. See my wedding chauffeur page.
- Tour groups and families. A full day out to Montserrat, Girona or the coast, with the coach waiting at each stop.
- Cruise groups. Between the port and the airport or hotel. The port information is on the Port of Barcelona site.
For a group of 17 to 33, choose the minibus. For up to 16, the Sprinter is enough. For one to seven, a car does the job.
Coach hire for airport transfers
The fixed airport price is €320 for the coach, and the same for the minibus. That covers one trip between El Prat and Barcelona. For arrivals, send me the flight details, the number of passengers and the amount of luggage. A group of 50 people with a suitcase each is a different job from a group of 50 with hand luggage only, and I want to know before the day.
For the full airport service, see Barcelona airport transfer. The airport itself is run by Aena.
A coach and driver for the day
When you book the coach by the hour, the driver stays with the vehicle for the hours you choose. Hire has a 6-hour minimum per day, with no maximum, and extra hours are charged at €110 each. A typical day might have a morning pick-up at the hotel, a visit, a lunch stop and a return in the afternoon. You tell me the stops and I plan the route with you.
For outings from Barcelona, my page on day trips from Barcelona lists the routes people ask for most. A trip to a place that is not on the price table, such as Girona or Andorra, is quoted on request.
Choosing between coach, minibus, Sprinter and car
- Up to 7 passengers: Mercedes V-Class.
- Up to 16: Mercedes Sprinter.
- Up to 33: minibus.
- Up to 60: coach.
If your group sits between two sizes, go for the larger one. It is better to have spare seats than to leave luggage behind. The fleet page shows all six vehicles together.
How to book a bus in Barcelona
- Use the quote form below, or the contact page.
- Tell me the date, the pick-up place, the destination and the number of passengers.
- Say whether you want a transfer or a driver at your disposal for several hours.
- I reply by e-mail or WhatsApp with the vehicle and the price, VAT included.
- Confirm and I book the driver.
If you need to understand the city’s public buses rather than a private charter, the official source is TMB.
Planning a coach trip with a large group
A coach is easy to book and easy to get wrong if the details are vague. These are the points I ask about, and they are worth deciding before you write to me.
- The exact number of passengers. If the group might grow or shrink, tell me the range. The coach takes up to 60.
- The luggage. Suitcases for an airport run need more room than day bags for an excursion.
- The pick-up and drop-off points. A coach cannot always stop right at a hotel door in the narrow streets of the old town, so I may suggest a nearby point where the group can board easily.
- The timings. Give me the start time, the stops and the expected end, so that the number of hours is right.
- The return. If you want the same coach to bring the group back, say so in the first message.
Once I have these, I can give you a price quickly. The route on the price table is the airport, and everything else is quoted on request.
Coach, minibus or two vehicles?
Sometimes a group of 45 is better served by a coach, and sometimes by a minibus plus a Sprinter, for example when two parts of the group arrive from different places. Because prices are per vehicle, a single coach for up to 60 is usually the simpler plan when everyone travels together. If the group splits, ask for two vehicles and I quote them separately.
The fleet page shows how the six vehicles compare, and Sprinter van hire covers the smaller option for up to 16.
Timing and parking for a coach
A coach is a large vehicle, and a few practical points help the day run smoothly. Allow extra minutes for boarding, because a group of 50 does not climb on in two minutes. If you have a fixed arrival time, such as a ceremony or a congress opening, tell me and I will plan the departure with a margin. For stops in the old town, I may suggest a drop-off point near the entrance rather than the door itself, so that the coach is not blocking a narrow street.
At the end of the day, tell me where and when you want to finish. If the group wants to stay longer at the last stop, extra hours are charged at €110 each, so a small change of plan does not turn into a new quote. For events with a large crowd, such as a festival or a race, the events page explains how I work around the venue.
