If you land at El Prat and your hotel, villa or ship is in Tarragona, the road does the work for you. A private chauffeur meets you at arrivals and drives straight south, without a change of train or a taxi queue. This page explains the route, how the price is set and which vehicle suits which group.
Barcelona airport to Tarragona: the route
From the airport to the centre of Tarragona it is 91 km, about 1 h 5 min without traffic (route on Google Maps). Those are free-flow figures. Arrivals in the late afternoon, summer weekends and Monday mornings can be slower, so I give you a realistic time in the quote rather than the best case.
If your address is not in the centre of Tarragona, give me the name of the hotel, apartment or port terminal in the quote request. The exact destination decides the final distance, and I confirm it before you pay anything.
How much is a private transfer to Tarragona?
Tarragona is not in my fixed price table, so this transfer is quoted on request. The quote is per vehicle, not per person, and it includes VAT. A family of six in a V-Class and a couple in an E-Class are quoted on the same basis: the vehicle, the route and the pick-up time.
For the transfers that do have fixed prices, see the prices page. If you only need the city leg, the Barcelona airport transfer page lists the fixed rates between El Prat and Barcelona.
Choosing the right vehicle
| Vehicle | Passengers |
|---|---|
| Mercedes E-Class | up to 3 |
| Mercedes V-Class | up to 7 |
| Mercedes Sprinter | up to 16 |
| Minibus | up to 33 |
| Coach | up to 60 |
For one to three passengers I would send the E-Class, and for a family or four to seven friends with cases the Mercedes V-Class is the sensible choice. Larger groups, such as a wedding party or a conference delegation, travel better in a Sprinter, minibus or coach. See the fleet page for the full line-up.
Barcelona airport to Tarragona cruise port
Many guests who ask for a transfer to Tarragona are heading to the cruise port. The drive is the same road, and I plan the pick-up around your boarding time rather than your landing time. Tell me the ship, the cruise line and your check-in window in the form, and confirm the terminal with the cruise line before you travel. If your ship leaves from Barcelona instead, the cruise port transfer page covers that run.
Train, bus or private transfer?
You have three realistic ways to get from the airport to Tarragona.
- Train. The Barcelona to Tarragona corridor is served by Renfe, and you usually need to reach a station first. Check routes on the Renfe website.
- Bus. Coach companies run between the airport and Tarragona. I do not quote timetables or fares here, because they change; check them with the operator.
- Private transfer. One vehicle, one driver, your address, a time that follows your flight.
Public transport is cheaper for one traveller with a backpack. A private car makes sense for groups, heavy luggage, late arrivals and anyone with a connection to meet in Tarragona.
Reus airport and Salou
Some guests compare Barcelona with Reus airport, which is closer to Tarragona. If you are flying into Reus, I can quote that transfer as well. For beach resorts further along the coast see Barcelona to Salou and Barcelona to PortAventura, and for the Roman city itself look at Tarragona as a day trip. The Catalonia tourism site is a good place to plan what to see once you arrive.
