Getting from the plane to the ship is a transfer where timing matters. A private chauffeur takes you from the arrivals hall to the cruise terminal in one leg. This page covers the route, the price and how to avoid the common pitfalls.
Barcelona airport to cruise port: distance and time
From Barcelona-El Prat to the Port of Barcelona cruise terminals it is 16 km, about 20 min without traffic (route on Google Maps). That is the free-flow time. On days when several ships are in port, the roads near the terminals fill up, so I plan the pick-up with some margin.
The Port of Barcelona publishes information on its terminals, and your cruise line will tell you which one your ship uses.
Barcelona airport to cruise port transfer price
The transfer between the airport and Barcelona has one price per vehicle, VAT included:
| Vehicle | Passengers | Airport to or from Barcelona |
|---|---|---|
| Mercedes E-Class | up to 3 | €80 |
| Mercedes V-Class | up to 7 | €80 |
| Mercedes Sprinter | up to 16 | €200 |
| Minibus | up to 33 | €320 |
| Coach | up to 60 | €320 |
The price is per vehicle, not per person. A family of five in a V-Class pays €80. The S-Class is booked by the hour only. See the prices page for the full list.
Cruise port to Barcelona airport
The return is the same route. If you disembark in the morning and fly in the afternoon, send me the ship’s arrival time, the terminal and your flight time. I plan the pick-up for when you expect to be ready, not for the ship’s scheduled berthing. Disembarkation can take time, and I would rather wait than hurry you.
Many guests combine the two: a morning at the cruise port, a few hours in the city and the airport after. For that, a driver at your disposal by the hour may fit better than a straight transfer; see chauffeur by the hour and the cruise port transfer page.
Barcelona airport to cruise port by shuttle, bus, train or taxi
These are the questions people type before they book:
- Shuttle: some cruise lines sell shuttle transfers. Check your booking, because I do not list their times.
- Bus and metro: TMB operates the city buses and metro. The journey involves a change, so it is a harder option with big suitcases.
- Train: Renfe serves the airport, but it does not go to the cruise terminals (Renfe).
- Taxi: taxi fares are regulated by the AMB; look at the current tariff there.
- Private chauffeur: a fixed price per vehicle, agreed in advance. For a comparison, see airport taxi vs private car.
I do not state fares or timetables of other operators here, because they change.
Which vehicle for a cruise group
An E-Class takes up to 3 passengers and a V-Class up to 7, both with luggage space. For a group of friends or a family reunion, the Sprinter takes up to 16. Cruise suitcases are large, so count them: if you have more than the seats, choose the next size up. The fleet page shows the vehicles.
Timing your transfer around embarkation
Cruise lines set their own embarkation windows, and your booking will say when you can board. A private chauffeur does not change those windows, but it removes the risk of a missed connection on the way. If your flight lands early, tell me; you may want a stop in the city before the ship. If it lands late, I plan the pick-up from the actual arrival rather than the schedule.
Large suitcases are the other point to think about. Cruise luggage is usually heavy, and a car at the terminal door avoids carrying it through a station. The Port of Barcelona site is the place to confirm the terminal for your ship.
