Not every trip is a fixed route. Sometimes you want a car and a driver for the day: meetings in several places, a long lunch, a tour with no fixed order, an evening with a late finish. That is what hiring a chauffeur by the hour in Barcelona is for. This page explains the prices, the minimum, how the hours are counted and who the service suits.

Hire a driver by the hour in Barcelona: how it works

The idea is simple. You tell me the date, the time you want to start and where. A driver arrives with the car at that time and stays at your disposal for the hours you booked. You decide the stops, the order and the pace. The driver waits where it is safe and legal to wait and comes back when you call.

I plan the day with you in advance, so that the booking covers what you want to do. If the day runs over, the extra time is added at the hourly rate. If it runs short, the booked hours still apply, because of the 6-hour minimum.

Chauffeur at your disposal for a day

A “driver for a day in Barcelona” usually means one of these.

  • A business day. Several meetings, a lunch and a transfer to the airport at the end. For regular work travel, see business chauffeur in Barcelona.
  • A sightseeing day. The Sagrada Família (official site), the old town, a viewpoint and a long lunch, with the car always nearby. My private Barcelona day tour page has ideas.
  • A day out of the city. Sitges, Montserrat, Girona or the Costa Brava. The hours of the full journey count. See day trips from Barcelona.
  • A special occasion. A wedding, an anniversary or an evening out, where you do not want to think about parking or the last train.
  • An airport day. Arriving in the morning, spending the day in the city and leaving at night, with the car and your luggage together.

Which vehicle for an hourly booking?

For one to three people, the Mercedes E-Class is the usual choice and the S-Class is the more formal one. For four to seven, book the V-Class, which costs the same as the E-Class by the hour. For groups up to 16, 33 or 60, I have the Sprinter, the minibus and the coach.

The fleet page explains all six vehicles.

Hourly chauffeur, fixed transfer or taxi?

If your trip is a single journey, a fixed transfer is usually cheaper. The airport route, for example, is €80 in an E-Class or V-Class. If you need two or three stops, a wait or a flexible finishing time, the hourly service is the better fit. A taxi makes sense for a short ride in the city, and the official information is on the AMB taxi page.

For airport pricing, see Barcelona airport transfer.

How to book a chauffeur by the hour

  1. Use the quote form below, or the contact page.
  2. Tell me the date, the start time, the pick-up address and the number of passengers.
  3. Describe the plan for the day, even roughly: the places, any airport stops and the time you expect to finish.
  4. I reply by e-mail or WhatsApp with the vehicle and the price, VAT included.
  5. Confirm and the driver is booked for the hours agreed.

The service runs 24/7, so the start time can be early in the morning or late at night. If your plans are not fixed yet, send what you have. I can still give you a price for the minimum booking and add hours later.

Examples of an hourly booking

Numbers are easier to picture with a plan. These examples use only the prices from the table above.

  • A morning of meetings and lunch. An E-Class booked for 6 hours is €470. The driver drops you at each meeting and waits.
  • A full working day. The same car for 8 hours is €630, which covers a long day with an evening dinner.
  • A day out to Montserrat or Sitges. The V-Class for 8 hours is €630 for up to 7 people, and the driver waits at each stop.
  • A longer day. If the 8 hours become 10, the two extra hours are charged at €80 each in the E-Class or V-Class.

A rough rule I give people: count the drive time to and from, add the time at each stop, and add a margin for traffic. If that comes to less than 6 hours, you still book the 6-hour minimum, so it is worth filling the day.

What is not included in the price

The price covers the vehicle, the driver and the hours, with VAT. Things that are paid to others are not part of it: tickets to attractions, meals, and any parking or entry fees that apply at a venue. I will tell you in the reply if a place on your plan has such a cost, and if I am not sure, I say so rather than guess. For opening hours and tickets, always check the attraction’s own site, for example Visit Barcelona.

When the hourly service is the wrong choice

If you need one journey, say airport to hotel, book the fixed transfer instead. The airport route is €80 in an E-Class or V-Class, which will be lower than any hourly booking. For trips to other places, such as Girona or Andorra, I quote the one-way trip on request, and the hourly service is only worth it if you want the driver to stay with you.

See the destinations pages for the one-way routes that I cover.
